About Plymouth
Plymouth is a city on the south coast of Devon. It is the last major City on the long A38 which reaches further onto Bodmin in Cornwall and goes North all the way to Mansfield in the East Midlands.
The port city has a long and rich heritage starting out as an early port in the Bronze age. It’s location between the Plym and Tamar Rivers gave it the perfect geographical start. The Romans soon saw its potential and it made its fortune importing goods and exporting Tin. One of it’s most famous exports was the Pilgrim Fathers of 1620 who went off to forge a new colony in North America.
Exports increase as lime, clay, arsenic and copper were added to the list of ensuring that the town grew in the industrial revolution. An example of this is the Tamar Railbridge that runs alongside the A38 so that goods could flow quicker out into the country.
